In May, 1989, a Parents and Citizens Association was established and it robustly lobbied the State Government of the time for early consideration for a primary school. In October 1989, Education Minister, Carmen Lawrence stated that $3.5 million would be allocated to build a primary school in Winthrop by 1991.The school was established to ease pressures at Bateman and Kardinya primary schools and to cater for the large residential suburb of Winthrop.

Construction on the school finished on time with 16 classrooms, a pre-primary centre, covered assembly area, canteen, library resource centre, music room, art and craft room and an administration block.
