HARMONY DAY 2018 - Celebrating Our Diversity

Ola, ni hau, apa khabar, bon jour, konnichiwa, kaya.

“Western Australians share a diverse heritage that originates from every part of the world and builds upon our rich Indigenous culture.”

To celebrate Harmony Day at Winthrop Primary, we will be presenting a Multicultural Concert on Wednesday 21st March, beginning at around 11:40, followed by a school picnic with students, teachers and parents in the new undercover area between A and B Blocks.

The canteen will be providing the usual fare for lunch, and this can be pre ordered if parents would like to join their children for the picnic. Japanese lunch is available on Wednesday; sushi, bento boxes and rice paper rolls are on the menu. All lunches must be pre-ordered on quickcliq.com.au and the cut-off is 3pm Tuesday. Parents are welcome to order as well, under their child's name. As a one-off vegetarian spring rolls will also be available on the day for $1 each. You are also welcome to bring your own lunch of course!

As there will also be a Lion Dance Performance, you are welcome to bring traditional red packets for the lion.

Remember to dress in multicultural costumes or orange!

The class lists will be announced in 2018 through Connect on Tuesday afternoon.

As we begin to use Connect next year, we will be starting the year by announcing the class lists through Connect.

Parents are welcome to join the Winthrop Primary School P&C

Dear Parents, Grandparents and Carers,

The Winthrop Primary School P&C welcomes all parents to join. Parents not previously involved are especially welcome.

The first meeting for 2018 will be held on Monday 12 February at 7.30pm in the Staff Room.

There are many reasons to join the P&C. Winthrop Primary School is very lucky to have so many parents who are willing to help around the school.

Joining the P&C is a good way to get to know the school and be involved in the many important events that occur during the year. It is also a nice way to meet new people and make friends.

If, like me, you come from another country, the P&C provides an excellent opportunity to integrate and learn how the Australian school system works.

The P&C provides direct involvement in fundraising, improving school infrastructure, supporting programs such the school band and choir and encourages a positive relationship between school staff and parents.

What the P&C does:

The P&C is responsible for the Uniform Shop.

The P&C organises the Canteen.

The P&C supports the Graduation Committee.

The P&C organises the fundraising events such as lap-a-thons, quiz nights, movie nights, catalogue sales, scholastic book club, school discos, second hand book sales, Carols Night. These fundraising events allow the P&C to provide funds for improving the school. For example, in 2017 $100,000 supported the construction of the undercover area for the basketball courts.

There are many ways you can be involved in the school for the benefit of your children. The P&C is an obvious option that requires a minimal amount of time and is beneficial for the parents, the students and Winthrop Primary School.

Please consider being involved in the P&C. Parents may choose to attend a meeting as an observer before committing to it. I have been a member of the P&C for seven enjoyable years. If you wish to discuss matters relating to the P&C, please feel free to contact me or other P&C members and I hope we can encourage you to become a new member.

CYBERSAFTEY - Parent Presentation

Paul Litherland (Surf Online Safe) was a WA Police Officer for over 20 years. He has presented at Winthrop Primary school to staff, students and parents in an engaging and informative information and tips that are vital for maintaining safe online behaviours.

Our main goal is to help parents better understand the networks and systems our children are using and to help them grow online with their kids.

Communication is ultimately the key, however Paul also offers some great tips and hints to help you maintain your sanity and peace of mind that your kids are doing what is expected of them.
